Pirates RBI

The Pirates RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) mission is to increase participation and diversity in the games of baseball and softball with a focus on the underserved and under-represented.  There are opportunities for every participant for fundamental instruction and competitive play, while being encouraged to achieve academically, demonstrate good sportsmanship, have fun, and make a positive impact in the community.

Pirates RBI provides baseball and softball programming and a league to over 1,200 boys and girls ages 9-18 through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western PA with funding support from Pirates Charities.  Our baseball and softball leagues are facilitated through a partnership with the City of Pittsburgh Parks and Recreation Department, creating the RBI Citisports League.  In addition to Pony (13-14 yrs), Colt (15-16 yrs)and Super Colt (17-18 yrs) baseball - new for 2020, the RBI Citisports league will host both 12U Little League-style and Bronco-style divisions.  In 2019, the league created a new 18U Fast-Pitch Softball division in addition the to the existing 12U, 15U and 18U Slow-Pitch divisions.

Each summer, Pirates RBI participates in the RBI Regional tournament, fielding (3) competitive teams:  Junior Baseball (13-15 yrs), Senior Baseball (16-18 yrs) and Senior Softball (14-18 yrs).  In 2018, Pirates RBI traveled to Detroit, MI with our Senior Baseball team advancing to the championship game vs. Cleveland.  In 2019, both our Junior and Senior Baseball teams earned championship bids in the Regional Tournament hosted in Durham, NC and played at the new Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
